Feedback Required on One-Line Stylesheet

Hi I am learning CSS and have come across a style sheet which only had 1 long line of this code :- html, body.div, span, applet, object, iframe etc etc. -- what does this mean? This particular style sheet was a stylesheet.css@import in the style.css. Can anyone give feedback plse?

Sounds like that CSS has been minified which basically means all the whitespace has been removed.

Here's an article on the importance of minifiying your CSS

If you want to de-minify it you can run it through dirtymarkup.com to prettify it.

Hi Pete,

It looks to me like you have encountered a CSS Reset. To James' point it is most likely minified as well. E.g. http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/css/reset/
E.g. http://www.paulund.co.uk/collection-of-css-resets

A Reset CSS file removes and neutralizes the inconsistent default styling of HTML elements, creating a level playing field across A-grade browsers and providing a sound foundation upon which you can explicitly declare your intentions. — http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/reset/

It should be noted CSS Resets have some issues so they are no longer the preferred method. Normalize.css is a better choice.

Excellent point and stellar article. Thanks James!

Thanks for the feedback, very informative and appreciated. Regards, pete
