Finding the Swift course a bit difficult...

I'm finding the swift course a bit difficult, maybe because I'm not very familiar with any other 'backend' languages, I have familiarised myself a little bit with Ruby elsewhere but haven't explored the rails track here much. Would learning something like Ruby or Python help with the understanding of Swift concepts? I feel they are a bit similar.

From what my co-workers, who are Ruby devs, have said, Swift is much easier for them to understand than Objective-C. The syntax reads like modern languages' syntax. On a recent project, one of those Ruby devs worked with me on building out the persistence layer of our app and it didn't take him long at all to pick up Swift (he was a pro over the weekend). Then again, he's been programming since he came out of the womb. Everybody is different.

The answer is "I have no idea." I feel that if Ruby and Python weren't much trouble for you then you should be able to pick up Swift just the same. There are a couple of concepts in Swift that are a little strange at first, but with practice, you'll start to see why they're important.

What in particular is troubling you with Swift (out of curiosity)?

Thank you for your answer. I'm half way through the 'Build a simple app with Swift' stage, and I just feel a bit lost. I did the first two stages again so might do that with this stage too.

Do you know Objective-C as well?

Yep!

and would you recommend learning it alongside Swift?
