First Day at School

Hello, all! Trying out my first 14 days for free and I can't decide between the Web Design Track and the Front End Development Track.... I love the idea of learning more about the design aspect - color, typography, etc... However, I'm wondering if I would be a better designer if I had a basic understanding of Java Scripting first? I noticed Java Scripting is included in the Front End Development track, but not the Web Design track. Anyone taken one or the other? Thoughts?

What is your familiarity with different codes? If you are just starting off I would recommend learning HTML and CSS first. They are more forgiving languages, slightly more intuitive than programming language. Plus they allow you to design sites (color, typography, etc) much quicker.

I started with HTML and CSS then jumped into JS, JQuery, PHP and am now starting with C and Objective C. Looking back I dont think I would have been able to start anywhere but at HTML and CSS.

The "How to make a website" is a good starting point.

Best of Luck and stick with it!

Ooops. I answered you, Jeremy. I just didn't realize that I didn't reply to your comment directly. Thank you for your help! :)

Thank you, Jeremy! I have some basic HTML and CSS knowledge. Took a class a couple years ago, and even got to do a little bit of design work in class. At the same time I was taking a Java Scripting class and I almost lost my mind. I think it was just too overwhelming to try and learn it all at the exact same time with no prior knowledge other than how to turn on a computer and find facebook.

Hello,

Ive taken both Tracks... I started with the Web Design Track and Then Went to the Front-End Development Track and am now learning PHP and Wordpress for the Backend and will be moving on to iOS after that.

The first 3 Courses in both tracks are exactly the same 1. How to Make a Website, 2. HTML Dive Deep, 3. CSS-Foundation And the Last one Sass Basics is also the Same.

Im not sure of your specific learning goals but wouldn't recommend learning Javascript Unless you already have an understanding of HTML/CSS. The Web Design Track Is more about Design and Photoshop and Illustrator with SEO as an Added Bonus Whereas the Front-End Development is more code based and Adding to your Website with Javascript and jQuery, Accessibility, Website Optimisation, Using the Console and Version Control.

Thank you, David! That helps a lot. I was wondering what the difference was. I really appreciate it. :) Good luck with PHP and Wordpress!
