Python Introducing Lists Using Lists Continental

for continent in continents: if continent[0] = 'A': print("* " + continent) else pass

could you please tell me why my code isn't working?

continents.py
continents = [
    'Asia',
    'South America',
    'North America',
    'Africa',
    'Europe',
    'Antarctica',
    'Australia',
]
# Your code here

for continent in continents:
    if continent[0] = 'A':
        print("* " + continent)
    else
        pass

Hi Matthew!

Two issues:

1) Use == (is equal to/comparison operator) not = (equals/assignment operator)*

*(easy mistake - I do it all the time!?! LOL)

2) You can lose the else/pass part - it passes without it (it passes with it, too, but if you use it, though, the else needs the colon).

Like this:

for continent in continents:
    if continent[0] == 'A':
        print("* " + continent)
    else:
        pass
