For loop theory help

first here's my code;

var html = "";

for (var i = 1; i <= 10; i += 1) {
  html += "<div>" + i + "</div>";
}
document.write(html);

What i don' understand is why the document.write(html) prints the counter each time and it's outside the loop (or at least it looks like it to me) when I run the code I get 10 divs but I only expect one?

You're adding to the html variable each iteration of the loop. By the end of the loop html contains 10 divs with a count in them and then you write them all at once with the document.write call after the end of the loop.
