8,979 PointsFormatting
In Python what is the difference between {} and %s or %d.

32,867 Points%s is a placeholder for a string. %d is a placeholder for a number (decimal). e.g.
name = 'Name'
number = 12
print 'Hello %s, There are %d months in a year.' % (name, number)
The {} is newer (python 2.6) and more customizable. e.g.
name = 'Name'
number = 12
print 'Hello {}, there are {} months in a year'.format(name, number)
print 'Hello {1}, there are {0} months in a year.'.format(number, name) # prints the same exact message as previous line
