In this particular challenge, the problem is with:

function alert ('HI!');

Deleting that line will make it work.

However, keep in mind that a basic function structure is:

function functionName(parameterName) {
    // Here goes what you want the function to do
};

And in order to use that function, you will need to call it using its name and an argument in the parameter place, like this:

functionName(argument);

So, to do what it seems like you want to do, the complete code would be:

function  sayHi () {
    alert('HI!');
};
sayHi();
