Gaming Courses

Hi everyone

Just wondering if their are any plans in place to start gaming courses, ranging from beginner to advanced, maybe using UDK, Unity or anything really?

Thanks

yea Andrew, think their would be a big following for that learning adventure

What kind of games do you think we should teach? /cc Nick Pettit

I think that we should create a course that teaches students how to build a game with Unity. It's inexpensive and it allows you to develop your game for multiple platforms (Android, iOS, PC, etc.). /cc Jake Kemper

Unity is the easiest to jump into and its used professionally. Its meant to support the small team indie game maker. Uses JavaScript, something the site already dives into, and C# . Both pretty simple to figure out in a reasonable amount of time as compared to C++. However, there is more that goes into it besides the programming side, like the content creation. Good news is, there are a lot of 3d assets for sale that you could easily use to create a game without the need of an Artist. Although there are a lot of Unity courses online, I don't know if a lot of them are approached to the kind of detail level Treehouse brings to subjects. With the , now ability to send out iOS and Android games for free, and the adoption of more and more higher quality games for both platforms, as well as the seemingly early success of the Ouya system, its only going to get more and more prevalent.

I think this would be a great way to learn how to program.

Hi,

Is there any update about gaming/unity course?

Hi Avinash Kunaparaju,

No, there are no updates at this time. Hopefully we'll teach game development in the future!

depends really, I know their is a lot of development/planning/work that goes into any type of video game, so baby steps maybe start using something called scratch http://scratch.mit.edu/ which is for kids then move onto http://www.alice.org/index.php which is aimed at teens. but these are building blocks for basic programming, I would love to know how it all comes together the graphics, planning & programming, hope this helps Ryan Carson

I think Flash games (and animations) would be a good starting point.

Flash and Unity have been covered to death already. I think UDK or Construct 2 might be cool

This is a great idea, i would love to be able to learn sometime like this and add it to my skills set!

it could be a good learning adventure that can be adapted to many different platforms

php based games such as strategy games like say online chess or some kind of stat game

ios and android making some form of game maybe utilizing physics

also flash which is a PERFECT excuse to bring flash to treehouse for flash websites flash addons and of course flash games

I second that.

Have a gaming course would be great! Even for creating 2D and 3D video games for the iOS and Android systems would be awesome.

I am currently learning the iOS / Android app development courses and to have a project that goes into building a basic or advance game that functions on both platforms would be fantastic!

I have been playing around with the Unity program to try and get a handle on developing a game - please look into starting a course like this, it would be greatly appreciated. :-)

I would start out using python and teach from the beginning like simple text adventure games to pygame. Making tetriss and build from there. Unity would be awesome though too. I would myself want to start with the 2d work on Unity.
