Generate a Rails application

Hi guys,

I'm new to Rails and I've begon the Generate a Rails Application video, and I have no idea how to set up a directory. I've looked at the teachers notes, but I have no idea how to implement this. Ofcourse I have tried several things. From my understanding if it works it should create a file somewhere which I could open with sublime text, right?

I really don't get it :/ and which promt is being used in the video? It looks different than the standard promt.

Regards,

Hans

A directory is just a folder. In the video Jason has created a folder called "Projects" in his home directory. You can create a folder with the Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows) and then just navigate there in the command line.

You might want to check out the Console Foundations Deep Dive that was just released a few weeks ago to get a better understanding of the command line.

I started, to write a response but seems Patrick has covered all the bases.

After you check out the Console videos, let us know if you still have any questions.

I had the exact same question as Hans. I totally got lost after installing Ruby. The video seems to assume you have some working knowledge of the console.

I've begun the Console deep dive. Once complete, I'll post back here to let everyone know if watching the videos clears up the confusion.

Thanks Patrick and James.

Everyone,

Patrick and James are correct. If you get lost, just watch the Console Deep Dive series. That'll clear everything up for you. Make sure to pay extra attention to the "make directory" tutorials.

Thanks again Patrick and James!
