Hello Johnathan,

Your best bet is to keep learning at the resources you use to study and practice.

While doing so, it may benefit you to start freelancing part time when you’re comfortable to do so. This will give you real world experience with clients and will enable you to work on real projects while building a portfolio.

I would say that anyone, from a complete beginner, so somebody with a good grasp of code and design can be job ready within 6 to 12 months by dedicating just an hour or two a day to Treehouse. Obviously experience and knowledge will play a hand in job opportunities.

Don’t forget to check out the jobs board on Treehouse: https://teamtreehouse.com/jobs

And remember, keep learning!

thanks but can i use my macbook early 2008 with mac os x loin 4gb ram 60gb left on the hard drive to get started also i'm short on cash

also last question what web languages besides html css and javascript i need to learn to get started freelancing plus what other things i should have software or hardware even open source apps thank you for your time

Johnathan,

You don’t need a powerful computer to create and develop websites. Your current MacBook should be more than ample for using a text editor and development tools that you may choose to use.

To answer your second question: “What web language besides HTML...” This depends entirely on you! If you enjoy HTML and CSS etc, then perhaps fronted development may be your choice for now. However, if you start and like learning PHP, ruby, etc, then you may be better suited starting with frontend development and then moving into fully developing sites for paying clients.

Hopefully this information was helpful?

yes it was thanks alot i'll get started thank you again

Whats up man,

I was in a pretty similar situation a little over a year ago, and I was able to teach myself how to code and get a job. I used a lot of the same resources you listed above, treehouse being one of them. After I was able to navigate my way into a tech career I have tried to help others that are in to process of taking the same self-educational journey as I did. Since I have answered this somewhat reoccurring question before, I have written a number of articles that address how I was able to teach myself to code. I think the more helpful one is How I Taught myself to Code in 10 months, but there are a few others that will probably be a good read as well if you are looking for motivation and some info on how I was able to learn to code. Those include How to Find an Entry Level Programming Job and Why You Should Lean To Code. Take these more as guidelines, this is what worked for me, but everyone learns differently. Hope this helps, and keep with the learning!
