8,213 PointsGetting Data from the Web, Moving work from the main thread to Asynctask. Challenge 2/3
Trying to solve this challenge and have redone the video qute a few times. Still unable to comprehend the challenge of "Declare the 'doInBackground(Object... params)' method inside your custom AsyncTask. Make it 'protected', return a String, and then simply return an empty String in the body. Don't forget the '@Override' annotation on the line above the declaration!"
I have the following code down:
"package com.example;
import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.View; import java.io.IOException; import java.net.MalformedURLException; import android.util.Log; import android.os.AsyncTask;
public class MainListActivity extends ListActivity {
public static final String URL = "http://www.teamtreehouse.com";
public static final String TAG = MainListActivity.class.getSimpleName();
private class CustomAsyncTask extends AsyncTask<Object,Void,String>{
@Override
protected String doInBackground(){
@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main_list);
try {
URL treehouseUrl = new URL(URL);
HttpURLConnection connection = (HttpURLConnection) treehouseUrl.openConnection();
connection.connect();
int responseCode = connection.getResponseCode();
}
catch (MalformedURLException e) {
Log.e(TAG, "MalformedURLException caught!", e);
}
catch (IOException e) {
Log.e(TAG, "IOException caught!", e);
}};
return "";
}
}
Cheers!

57,712 PointsYour doInBackground
is including onCreate
. And there's no Object... params
either.
I think something like this should work ...
public class MainListActivity extends ListActivity {
public static final String URL = "http://www.teamtreehouse.com";
public static final String TAG = MainListActivity.class.getSimpleName();
private class CustomAsyncTask extends AsyncTask<Object, Void, String>{
@Override
protected String doInBackground(Object ... params){
return "";
}
}
@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { ...
Hope that helps!
Steve.
