4,134 PointsGoodbye Treehouse
tl;dr: Treehouse is amazing, but the code challenges are an awful experience and I'm going to try alternatives. I hope it means the Treehouse Team are super successful.
I'm tired. Don't know if I've managed to get through a full month. I've tried to spend most of my past 3 weekends and lunchtime watching videos, doing challenges and taking (sometimes) far too easy tests. I've kept a journal by my side writing down every method, css property and basics in the track I was doing.
I was interested in learning a bit about rails and took the rails track because it was a very interesting bootcamp to web development. I like it that Treehouse is so open about all the content in their courses, down to the number of questions, challenges and the video times. It's mostly the reason I chose Treehouse over the alternatives. That and how newbie-friendly it is.
I actually wrote out a spreadsheet with all the courses in the track, the units, how much I estimated I would take to finish. I was really motivated and wanted to do it. And don't get me wrong, for the first two weeks it was simply amazing. Even the dry "CSS Foundations" Deep Dive was bliss. I was checking my progress and correcting my estimations on how much time it would take me to get through and how much I'd learnt. I wanted to start building my github repo with things I'd learnt and have a tangible track record of my progress.
But I'm tired of the experience. Not the videos, which are thoughtful and made with the student in mind, but the code challenges. This service is terrible. I'm currently in the middle of "Build an interactive Website" Project and am tired of having to reload the page 10 times every challenge comes out. I'm forced to write everything by hand, because Ctr-C, Ctrl-V won't work, at least not in this island. And I have to write fast, because the servers get lazy after a while and stop working (I'm ok, doing around 25-30 WPM).
Don't get me wrong. This is not an angry rant, more a hope that I can come back in maybe 6 months and see these bugs fixed. If anybody asks me, I'll refer to the Treehous as a great learning resource.
I would like to come back. Please make this as top notch as it really looks.
KR, Javier

42,016 Pointshmm I havent experienced the issues with the challenge engine that you are mentioning (connection wise). What browser did you use? Ive used google chrome with little to no issues with the engine.
Javier Gómez-Acebo Finat
4,134 PointsChrome, latest version on Mac OS X Mavericks. On a MacBook Air 2012

42,016 Pointsyeah thats what im using as well on mavericks. could be an issue with the course possibly. most of what ive done has been in the iOS track not ruby.

4,134 PointsIt was on the jQuery Island, maybe it only happens with that library

6,143 PointsI haven't notice that experience either. You sound determined and organized. Honestly, I like to know that there are people like you who stick around and help support the development. You sound like you agree with treehouse teaching methods. I would hate to see guys like you go because you might be able to help people like me. I am a little concerned that you waited until you were exasperated with the "experience." Did you contact support and not get any resolution? Did you send a "shout out" to others in the forum to see if they were experiencing the same problem? I'm trying to understand. I subscribed to your post and didn't respond initially because I didn't want to be a show boat. But there are some important missing piece to your experience. I mean this in the most sincere way, but all I can learn from your post is that you were tired. Can that really be all?
Javier Gómez-Acebo Finat
4,134 PointsYou're right on all counts.
I never shouted out, contact support nor got a resolution. And from my post you can only gather that I'm tired because it's all I say. I didn't contact, because I'm used to RTM and google solutions when I don't have a lot of time. I'm spending most of my free time on it (lunch breaks, afterwork and weekends), so it's even more frustrating.
Again, you're right saying I shouldn't just whine out and say it's not working but looking for solutions. Right now I'm running out of free time and it's the best feedback I can give. I'm willing to stay in contact stay to answer any questions on my experience. I'm sorry if I'm just coming out as a needy annoying ass, I was staying up at work for an hour to try and catch up and finally got fed up. (maybe the title of the post should have been "See ya Treehouse"…). Again, sorry for the rant.

4,134 PointsReally enjoyed CSS Foundations and was incapable to finish Building an Interactive Website. Not because of Andrew, he's very good. Also liked Introduction to Programming

39,199 PointsThe JavaScript courses on this site have been discussed on here more than a few times. My understanding is that Building an Interactive Website & JavaScript Foundations are being replaced. With a new JavaScript foundations by a guest teacher Racherl Nabors (who is pretty awesome from her other stuff on the web I've seen) as well as a JQuery Foundation course by Andrew.

838 PointsHope you're having a great Friday so far! :) I wrote you an email with some troubleshooting solutions sometime last night. I'm not too certain you've had a chance to read it just yet (hopefully it wasn't blocked by spam filters). Whenever it is convenient for you give those troubleshooting solutions a try and send me an email. If, for some unfortunate reason, you didn't get my email please reach out to me directly. My email is help@teamtreehouse.com :) I look forward to hearing from you!

Courses Plus Student 517 PointsI am doing CSS foundation and I also have problem with the code challenge. I get a page time-out when I check my answer. In the HTML basics course everything worked fine.

6,143 PointsJohn, please search or select the appropriate section for your comments. This tread, although under "General", is not related to your question. I'm sure the group will be glad to help. Don't forget to search your question as it may already be answered. If not then start a discussion. Incidentally, your question is a technical issue that has not to do with CSS as much as it has to do with a technical problem. On the right, you will see a "technical questions" area where you may click the "contact support" for problems with your concerns with the functionality of the site.

6,143 PointsI apologize if I sounded a bit short. I was honestly trying to help. Sorry, Robert. I wasn't being constructive. Incidentally, I have had some sporadic issues that I was about to report but it "resolved" before I had to contact support. Thanks Javier for keeping the spirit of the forum and preventing me from sounding cold. Good to see you are still around. :)

3,557 PointsPoor support for copying and pasting in the code challenges has left me frustrated as well. That, combined with the fact that often an incorrect answer is not re-displayed, makes hand coding the answers very tedious. I'm specifically thinking of building queries in the database deep dive code challenges that were very frustrating. Another little detail that makes the code challenges frustrating is that you can't see where the cursor is at.
ecp
838 PointsHi Aaron Walton ! :)
Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback. Sorry to hear you've had trouble with the Code Challenges. Have you had a chance to ask any of your fellow students or the Treehouse Teachers for help on the Forum? Overall, the Forum is a great way to connect with others and ask questions about personal projects, Code Challenges, and course topics. :)
Also, "code challenges frustrating is that you can't see where the cursor is at" mind sending me a screenshot of that? I just tried a CC in Chrome and Firefox, and I saw my cursor just fine! I'd be happy to look into this for you. :) My email is help@teamtreehouse.com ! Thank you.
Let me know if there is anything you need. Thanks for being on the Team.
Best,
Elizabeth
