Hey guys,
I had my first interview today for a front-end web developer position and end up getting offered a position in the company!
I started learning back in July of last year and have since spent all my time practising and the hard work has paid off.
I've only been at Treehouse just over 3 months of that period but they have played a huge role in helping me improve my skills.
I plan to stay here and keep learning to improving my skills.
Thanks again for everyone who has helped and keep the community growing :)
Treehouse ftw!

Have you got any takeways from your own learning process you think can be useful for other learners?

13,965 PointsHi Magnus,
keep going you're probably not that far away. It's hard when you self-teach because you have no idea how far away you are and what to measure yourself up against. It's going in to the unknown.
In terms of the learning process I would say as long as you want it badly then you'll make it happen. There hasn't been a day that's gone by in the past year or so I haven't thought/envisioned having a career in tech.
I would get home from work and spend my few hours of the night learning, or on days off do good 2-4 hour blocks.
In regards to resources I liked to mix it up depending on the course. Treehouse is great but sometimes you might want to try a course on another site to keep it fresh.
I also use Codecademy, Lynda, Codeschool & Tuts.
Out of those 4 above I use Codecademy a lot because it's nice to be able to do challenges and take action. Sometimes you get tired of watching loads of tutorials and just want to write code.
Codecademy is great for beginners, I enjoyed the Javascript lessons.
I spent my first 4/5 months at Lynda before Treehouse and I still recommend them, even though I moved to Treehouse.
I enjoyed Lynda's Wordpress tutorials.

I haven't used Codeschool as much but registered because https://teamtreehouse.com/rileyhilliard used it.
I recommend checking out Riley's blog and story if you haven't, it inspired me a lot because he went down a similar path of teaching himself.
And if you want to learn Jquery then this a good course.

Other than that Treehouse had everything I needed.
Finally, I'd say try to do projects for people because you learn a lot from that. You can sometimes think you know it all watching tutorials but until you start applying the code you don't see the problems you can sometimes face.
When you've had problems and overcome them it gives you more confidence and things become much more natural and you can write code without thinking about it/researching.
Your time is coming.

I started web development in 2013 when I took a couple of classes at my local university; it was on/off and there were a lot of gaps that I had to fill out. I began learning with Treehouse in September last year and I learned so much. I got offered a job as a front end developer this week and I am starting tomorrow actually. I am nervous, but excited;
Again, congrats!
