Guest Blogging

I believe Matt Cutt has came out an said this year that "Guest Blogging" is not a good idea for building backlinks. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

There's a distinction between writing a guest blog post for a friend, colleague, or industry blog, and writing for a guest blog network.

When you write a guest post for a blog, the hope is to improve your online presence through the exposure you get to the blog's audience.

Many guest blog networks, however, have gotten bad reputations because they publish posts that are very spammy. Matt Cutts explains what that means here and further explains in this tweet: "when we take action on a spammy link network, it can include blogs hosting guest posts, sites benefiting from the links, etc."

If you intend on writing a guest post for a blog, make it high-quality and you should be fine. I'd warn against loading it up with too many links, however, so as not to raise any red flags.
