have a degree in irrelevant field!

I have a degree in mechanical engineering but no interest in it, I know this doesn't hurt but just wondering how much this will benefit me when I start trying to get a job in web development, anyone who is or was in a similar situation, like to hear your opinion?

I'd assume it might help you in terms of how to think about some of the subject material. Transferables. But the mechanical engineering would help most if dealing in a field more directly related to mechanical engineering. I'm not sure how many machines are connected to the internet. (others might have more insight).

Mechanical Engineering and Web development have a pretty wide gap in terms of relatability. But! you would be surprised how seemingly unrelated fields can come together and create a great career. I'm unable to provide anything for your for your specific scenario though, unfortunately.

If anything, don't rely on your degree for a Web Development job but always 'keep it in your back pocket' so you can use it to your advantage when the opportunity arises.
