what is the advantage of using 'header','section' and 'footer' tags inside the 'body' tag? what happens if I do not use it?

They are part of a dozen-or-so new semantic elements being added to the HTML specification as part of HTML5. Used correctly, they can be more descriptive of the sections of page content than the divs and IDs convention used up to now. There is more information at W3Schools.
