I dont understand what more they are asking for. isnt the code:

input[type="text"]:disabled { background-color:lightgray; }

???????

No need to use type just to do a thing like this

input[disabled] {background-color: lightgray;}

Ah yes that is right :)

And if you want to go even shorter, then simply write:

input[disabled] {
  background: lightgray;
}
