Help on deciding layout

Hello my fellow treehousers , I'm planning to create a simple welcome back website with a few images(4-6) for my friend's arrival after a long voyage at sea, I'm kinda stuck at what layout should I make for it, so I thought why not ask my teacher, in what direction should I start thinking when deciding on the layout, any factors?

Good evening Raghav,

There are endless options to creating a great website to welcome back a friend! A big factor in deciding is based on your own personal skill-set, design taste and also what you think your friend (think of them as a client if you like) would love to see!

  • Your skill-set will help you determine what you would like to put together in terms of a site - i.e. full-width site, centred content box, continuous scrolling pages, multiple page navigation etc. Also, if you would like to commemorate this occasion with other family members another great way would be responsive design - thus allowing them to get a great look at your site from a mobile device, tablet or notebook/desktop based browser! All of these skills are available through the Treehouse tracks and/or library, and can help you each step along the way.

  • Design taste: A website can be fun, a piece of art, a business tool, a game - the options for what can be displayed can go on forever. I have a belief in my development that the front-end look of a product, should be just as great as the back-end functionality that it provides. When designing your site, do some searches around the web, check out other sites, current trends, popular features and pick and choose out some things about them you like - then challenge yourself to recreate it, in a similar way, or even a new and better way! Inspiration can be found all over for design aspects of your new site.

  • Your friend (the client base) development is enjoyable! The thrill of taking on something new, and the great feeling of success when you complete your project, and more often than not pick up some new skill or theory in the process, wether it be small or large you will always learn something new! Think of what your friend likes, enjoys and so on - use these as some foundations for your website "look" design.

Treehouse has many tools to help you will all of the above, also the internet is an endless pot of knowledge and useful tips, don't be afraid to use it!

Test your skills, challenge yourself and make a great product! I hope this information helps you on your development project.

Thank you sir for such a comprehensive answer
