- Add a link to jQuery in the head of your file. You can place this after your title, but before your other scripts.
- Edit your functions.
- Take the onclick off in your HTML. (Sorry that the code is formatted awkwardly, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.)
<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <link href='//fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Varela+Round' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/main.css"> <title>AJAX with JavaScript</title> <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.3/jquery.min.js"></script> <script> var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest(); xhr.onreadystatechange = function(){ if(xhr.readyState === 4){ document.getElementById('ajax').innerHTML = xhr.responseText;
}
};
xhr.open('GET', 'sidebar.html');
$(document).ready(function() { document.getElementById("load").addEventListener("click", sendAJAX); });
function sendAJAX(){
xhr.send();
document.getElementById("load").style.display = "none";
}
</script> </head> <body> <div class="grid-container centered"> <div class="grid-100"> <div class="contained"> <div class="grid-100"> <div class="heading"> <h1>Bring on the AJAX</h1> <button id="load">Click Me!</button> </div> <div id="ajax">
