JavaScript JavaScript Foundations Variables Hoisting

Hoisting Went Over My Head

    <script>

    function elevatorCloseButton(pushed) {
         var status = "I'll close when I'm ready.";
        if (pushed) {
            status = "I'll close when I'm ready.";
        }

    }

    elevatorCloseButton(true);

    </script>

Why is this not best practice for declaring variables within the scope of the function?

You don't need to set a value to the variable when declaring it. The "If" function is where the variable status is getting its value.
