How can I add data to my mongo db with an html button with meteor (or in genera if no knowledge of meteor)

I need to add a string value to a mongo db document with an html button in meteor. I know how to do it with a html form, but I am not sure what changes when you do it with a button. For an example of what i need to do, a button would be clicked and then a value of say 3 would be added to a mongo document.
