How can I get Android Studio Emulator to work without crashing?

I am trying to use the ARM CPU/ABI based emulator on my windows laptop but it continues to crash. I know, it is a laptop but I have verified that I meet all of the system requirements set by Android. The emulator comes up and tries to work but once the android splash screen goes away and the normal OS tries to load, it crashes ("emulator-arm.exe has stopped working").

I have tried several variations of Virtual Devices including lowering the amount of RAM, increasing and decreasing the VM heap setting, ensuring the cameras were set to none, ensured I met all system requirements for Android Studio, selected and deselected GPU, and have tried numerous versions of API, hardware profiles and screen resolutions.

I am at my wits end, please help!
