How can I scroll in the console without a mouse?

I'm using a laptop with no mousewheel (just a touchpad and right/left click). Windows 7. Up and down arrows cycle through my most recent command entries, and PgUp/PgDn don't work.

Holding down CTRL while pressing the up and down arrows allows you to scroll in the console.

Figured this out last night. I thought I'd tried all the modifier keys with up and down but I must have skipped over CTRL...

Thank you guys for your answers. Hopefully this question proves helpful to some mouseless treehouser in the future.

You can add the command "|less" at the end of your statement (example: ...&& java Example |less) and it will load in a scroll-able format.

Then, type "q" (enter) to exit.

But what if I run the cat command and the output is longer than my screen? Or if I clear the console and then want to scroll up to see the last few lines of output?

Well, I don't know what to tell you about clearing the console. But using |less will allow you to scroll using pgup & pgdn to see all the output for that command.

Michael,

In Windows, you typically use the PgUp/PgDn keys or up/down arrows to scroll within a window, and Home/End to go to the top/bottom of a window.

Also--if you haven't clicked within the window (using your touchpad), none of this will work.

If none of this works, it's not a Windows problem, it's a Treehouse problem--report it to Treehouse Support (Treehouse staff almost exclusively work in OS X, so they may be unaware of it).
