How do I create a website like meetup?

Hi I'm new to coding. I would like to create a website that is similar to meetup in the way of viewing the calendar and being able to RSVP to event etc.

It is my understanding the best approach for a newbie would be to use Wordpress utilising the Buddypress plugin. Is there any other plugins that would be enable me to have these capabilities.

I would recomend you to look into a theme in Wordpress and start looking for modules that will help you build it.

For best pratice; Try build the plugin yourself? :)

Thanks.

I am currently studying a graphic design course and we are creating a basic wordpress theme.

Just checked out the courses on here for building a Wordpress plugin and it said I should know PHP, jQuery and Wordpress. Could you recommend a little custom track to follow to achieve this? Definitely would love to build it myself given time permits.

I think everyone takes a pretty 'custom track' approach to their learning! You could also try the ready made Wordpress track, which should (in theory) take you through the necessary requirements you mentioned.

Wordpress is built on PHP, so that doesn't sound like a bad place to start and if you're fiddling with the back-end, you may well need to go through it.

Behind every application is a database. It sounds like your application relies quite heavily on a database - if you haven't started MySQL / database structures, you'll certainly need to add this to your list!

Unfortunately, there's no shortcuts so get stuck in somewhere and the rest will happen.

Best of luck

I just noticed some ready made tracks for wordpress plugin development etc. There is quite a bit on here. Such a great resource! Will definitely be diving in and learning everything shortly.
