How do I find the length of strings in an array?

How do I find the length of individual elements in the array. All I know how to do is find the length of the array itself.

      var saying1 = ["The", "quick", "brown", "fox", "jumps", "over", "the", "lazy", "dog"];
      var saying2 = ["The", "quick", "brown", "fox", "jumped", "over", "the", "lazy", "dog's", "back"];

hey matthew, you're half way there - you're already using sort on the saying2. but you're currently missing the function inside that does the length checking. so building up on what you already have in the challenge this is how it would look:

saying2.sort(function(a, b) {
    return a.length - b.length;

hope that helps and have a nice day ;)

For individual elements you need to target each element in your array. You can do that by using a for loop. This will target each element in your saying2 array by using the counter x. Then I'm using the length property to find that elements length and then output the answer to the console.

for(var x=0; x<saying2.length; x++){
var arraylength = saying2[x].length;
