mailto: will use the default mail client that is installed on your computer (e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, etc.). Since you are probably accessing Gmail via web, the browser does not know what mail client it should use and so probably nothing is going to happen. As Gmail via web is just another web site and is not a mail client.

16,630 PointsEither use a contact form (but to be able to do that, server side scripting is necessary) or setup one of the mentioned mail clients on your computer and link it to your Gmail account. I would not worry too much about that, just know that mailto: will tell the browser to open a mail client (again, the Gmail page is a WEBSITE and not a mail client) and keep learning other stuff. Sooner or later you will begin to understand why it works this way.
