No need to declare anything in the JS file. if it's declared at the bottom of the html body then you are good to go.

<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>JavaScript Basics</title>
  </head>
  <body>
  <script src="app.js"> </script>
  </body>
</html>
