Python Python Basics (2015) Python Data Types Use .split() and .join()

How do you assign a value to a new variable with the value being a result of a split string?

I'm using the .split() function to split a string. The result comes out a list. I need to assign that list to a new variable.

banana.py
available = "banana split;hot fudge;cherry;malted;black and white"

available.split(';')
sundaes = '
