General Discussion

How I managed to secure a job as a developer, plus advice to any one interested.

Hi this is a general post as I was very fortunate to land a position and want to spread the word about how I ended where I am now!

I started learning treehouse a little under a year ago and now have been working with a London based start-up for the last 6 months as a full stack developer.

I work for a company called Funding Circle (London) and can't tell you how much it has changed my life, for last few years I wanted to work in a start-up but found it difficult to get started because I had zero experience in development (to give you an idea I had no idea what a h1 tag was in Aug 2013).

I worked my way through many of the online courses, as im sure many of you guys are currently doing, then started to ask friends if they wanted any help in designing websites so I could test out my skills. At first this was tricky because it is very easy to follow sites guided by treehouse but a lot harder on your own! I enjoyed doing various freelance work but really wanted to learn more and keep my steep learning curve going!

Luckily I had joined a very very early start-up through the work-in-start-ups website and did various free work with them but unfortunately that didnt work but he suggested i joined 'Codecraft' this is 3 month internship offered by Funding Circle where you will be taught from scratch how to work in a development environment but more importantly you get to work with the team and develop your paring skills and get paid for your work!

This course/internship is based in London but if you are looking for a job i highly recommend taking a look at it:

I still keep my treehouse membership and learn whenever i can, if you want to ask any questions then leave a message below and il try help as much as possible but if London based or near then give it a shot!

Congratulations, we thrive on stories such as this.

Great work! :)

Amazing, congrats!! Please let us know if there's anything else we could have done to help further :D kristen@teamtreehouse.com

That is awesome! Congrats!!

Congratulations, that's fantastic!! :)

Thanks for all your comments,

One thing i would say about working with other people is learning more about pairing and how to use the command line more, like deploying to UAT, almost explaining processes that happen at lots of tech companies? I know that a lot of developers don't get involved in the whole deployment process depending on company set-up but useful skills to know even at a basic level.

I wish i had more time to learn more and explore different technologies.

Also if anyone is interested in applying the deadline is the end of this month!

Keep it up @teamtreehouse

Okay is there anything like that in New York that is not a coding bootcamp?

Ive heard about ones in Canada that a friend went on but no havent heard of one in New York, im sure there is though!

I'm going to look into it to see if I can find any. Thanks for the response!

I just read everything about CodeCraft and it sounds awesome! But i have a question tho. Let's say the choose me as their student, do i have to live in London or is it possible to attend their classes and everything online? I'm really interested in this, but i'm from Croatia :(
