How to find what kind of functionality is available in the Android API libraries.

I realized that one of the ways to become better at developing for android is to know whats in the Android libraries and to know how to access everything thats there.

What resources are available that will point an android novice in the right direction?

This is a great question! You are definitely on the right track. The Android Developer site might seem a little overwhelming at first, but it's got so much good information and continually becomes better organized. I would at least skim through the Design and API Guides:

The open source community for Android is huge, so it pays to at least be familiar with what's available. I'd recommend periodically checking out the Java section of GitHub: https://github.com/languages/Java

I'd also recommend one of these comprehensive books. Even if you don't work through them cover to cover, they are handy references that cover everything you can do with the Android SDK:

Im too not sure, I too started android yesterday.

But I think if its like jquery API !!; Then for android its > http://developer.android.com/reference/packages.html
