13,108 PointsHow to get node.js running online?
Just finished the two node.js courses and am about to start playing around with it. But can someone tell me how to get it working on a web server rather than my local machine? I currently have a basic web hosting plan with 1and1.com, after a quick google it looks like using node with it is not possible. Would I have to buy another plan somewhere else in order to have it work? If so, any suggestions of somewhere good?

12,397 PointsI just upgraded to a VPS account with node access with dreamhost. I believe it's $15 per month. I just signed up so I haven't built any node applications but I've been with them over 10 years. I've also heard the mention of Heroku as an option but I've never used that one. There is also one called linode on the Treehouse student perks page that looks like it might let you use node
If you just want to practice you can also use Vagrant on your local machine. It's free and works on Mac, Windows, and Linux. I just started using that last night. If you are not familiar with it then check out this short demo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmOMc4zfCSw
