How to have a loop that keeps adding new items?

Not sure how to, given my code, have a loop, keep adding i

functions.py
def add_list(list):
  for i in list:
    return i + i

# add_list([1, 2, 3]) should return 6
# summarize([1, 2, 3]) should return "The sum of [1, 2, 3] is 6."
# Note: both functions will only take *one* argument each.

Start a counter variable outside of the loop with a value of 0. Then add the loop step to the counter for each step.

Understood - thanks! Can perhaps also use += for something like this. Cheers Kenneth.
