How to i call the method on the item variable?

I am stuck on the step where i need to call the method on the item variable...which property of item do i call the method on?

var item = Expense(description: "Something here")
item.amount = 100

var taxes = calculateTaxes(7.5)

thanks

Lee

struct.swift
struct Expense {
    var description: String
    var amount: Double = 0.0

    init (description: String) {
        self.description = description
    }

    // add the calculateTaxes method here
    // it should accept only one parameter named 'percentage' of type Double
    func calculateTaxes(percentage: Double) -> Double {
      return (self.amount * (percentage/100))
    }

}

var item = Expense(description: "Something here")
item.amount = 100

var taxes = calculateTaxes(7.5)

Hey Lee,

You can access functions using dot notation. So if you are trying to invoke calculateTaxes on your variable item with a percentage of 7.5, you would do so like this.

var taxes = item.calculateTaxes(7.5)

It should be

var taxes = item.calculateTaxes(7.5)

Full code below:

struct Expense {
    var description: String
    var amount: Double = 0.0

    init (description: String) {
        self.description = description
    }

    // add the calculateTaxes method here
    // it should accept only one parameter named 'percentage' of type Double
    func calculateTaxes(percentage: Double) -> Double {
     return (self.amount * (percentage/100))
    }
}

var item = Expense(description: "HelloWorld")
item.amount = 100
var taxes = item.calculateTaxes(7.5)

Hope this helps,

Vrund
