How to make a working (contact me) form that sends the info to your e-mail?

I know to make a form using HTMl and CSS but I want the visitor of the page to contact me through a form. How does this work? What kind of language/knowledge do I need to have to make this work?

Edit 1: So I found these Treehouse videos (https://teamtreehouse.com/library/building-websites-with-php) which also explain how to build a working webform using PHP. But following the entire PHP course takes to long and without following it the videos are to complicated to understand. Does anyone know about a step-by-step guide or another (free) tool?
