How to remove boolean item from list?

I am nearly there, damnit. Can I make a minor adjustment or do I need to rethink about my approach? There are two different approaches below.

messy_list = ["a", 2, 3, 1, False, [1, 2, 3]]

messy_list.insert(0, messy_list.pop(3))

#This one removes string and list but not boolean.
for x in messy_list:
    try:
        x + 1
    except TypeError:
        messy_list.remove(x)

#This one removes string and boolean but not list
for x in messy_list:
    if type(x) != int:
        messy_list.remove(x)

Found this solution but not sure why it works. It just has a list() in it.

for x in list(messy_list):
    if type(x) != int:
        messy_list.remove(x)
