squared.py
# EXAMPLES
# squared(5) would return 25
# squared("2") would return 4
# squared("tim") would return "timtimtim"
def squared(num):
    if number == num:
        return int(num) ** 2
    elif string == num:
        return string * len(string)

When trying to determine the type of a variable, you must use the type() function. This will return the type, and you can use it in your 'if' statements. Something like this should do the trick:

def squared(num):
  if type(num) == int:
    num = num ** 2
  elif type(num) == str:
    num = num * len(num)
  return num

Whoops! Copied it from another repl that uses two spaces instead of four. Try this:

def squared(num):
    if type(num) == int:
        num = num ** 2
    elif type(num) == str:
        num = num * len(num)
    return num
