How would I make the list callable

A getting an error that says list is not callable. How would i rectify that

morse.py
class Letter:
    def __init__(self, pattern=None):
        self.pattern = pattern

    def __iter__(self):
        yield from self.pattern

    def __str__(self):
        output = []
        for blip in self:
            if blip == '.':
                output.append('dot')
            else:
                output.append('dash')
        return '-'.join(output)

    @classmethod
    def from_string(cls, string):
        new_list = []
        my_list = string.split('-')
        for item in my_list():
            if item  == ('dot'):
                new_list.append('.')
            elif item == ('dash'):
                new_item.append('-')
        return cls(pattern)

class S(Letter):
    def __init__(self):
         pattern = ['.', '.', '.']
         super().__init__(pattern)

You don't want to make the list callable, you just want to stop trying to "call" the list. That's one of a few issues:

  • there should be no parentheses in "for item in my_list:"
  • the reference to "new_item" is undefined and should be "new_list" instead
  • the reference to "pattern" is undefined and should also be to "new_list"
  • a "dash" is being converted into a hyphen ('-') but should be an underscore ('_')
