How would you start game development?

Does anybody have any advice on starting game programming/dev. I have an android phone. Should I learn Java and learn how to program android games? Should I go with something like Unity? What are your recommendations?

To my knowledge most games are programmed in a variation of C a.k.a. (C++ or C#). Unity uses C# and I have a friend who had a lot of fun using it. That would be my recommendation for game dev. Treehouse is even looking for a C# teacher now so courses may be on the way. In the meantime I second the Java and the Android track. It will teach you a lot about programming, phones, and Java, which is similar (but very different) to C#.

Goodluck! -Ricky
