I have been using atom text editor for the last year and I really like it. It is free and has tons of packages and themes you can add to simplify your workflow.

I tried Visual Studio Code, Brackets, and Sublime Text 3.
Sublime Text 3 can be used for trial without a time limit and you can purchase it to support the development. The other 2 editors are free.
They are all lightweight, highly customizable and have a lot of plug ins which you can install to further enrich your experience (I suggest to install emmet, beautify and git plugins, but you will find a ton more which you might like).
Ultimately, I stuck with Sublime Text, as it offers a lot of great features and has some themes that I liked more. :-)
You might try them for a couple of weeks and see which one you liked the most... This is how I did.
