JavaScript JavaScript and the DOM (Retiring) Making Changes to the DOM Modifying Elements

I am seriously struggling with the DOM. What is wrong with this code?

This code seems weird but it should give the variable inputValue the value of the text field. Shouldn't it?

app.js
let inputValue = document.querySelector('#linkName');

inputValue.addEventListener ('click', () =>{
  inputValue = inputValue.value
});
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <title>DOM Manipulation</title>
    </head>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" />
    <body>
        <div id="content">
            <label>Link Name:</label>
            <input type="text" id="linkName">
            <a id="link" href="https://teamtreehouse.com"></a>
        </div>
        <script src="app.js"></script>
    </body>
</html>

You won't need to create an event handler for this challenge. Besides, the validator is expecting the code to work without user intervention.

But your first line by itself is very close. It currently assigns a reference to the element to the variable, so you just need to modify it slightly to assign the element's value instead of the element itself.
