You can start developing for free. From their site:

Nitrous.IO offers free accounts with basic functionality. Code on Nitrous.IO for as long as you want, and if you feel the need for more speed and a faster box with additional features, you can upgrade to take things to the next level.

It always redirects to windows server iis.com. This is very frustrating, I can never understand how to set these servers up

If you are on Windows, I highly, highly, highly, highly recommend you use Nitrous.io. Your sanity will thank me.

Nitrous.io is not a paid program. You can pay to get upgrades, but I'm at 348 NoS and I haven't paid for a single thing. Just share with friends, family, and co-workers and you can get more credits to build up your box. It's completely free and works great for Ruby. I've gone through most of the tutorials with Nitrious.io and I can't complain. It also has awesome APIs where you can get connected directly to Heroku and use a bunch of cool tools.

If you use my referral code, I believe they give you extra NoS when you sign up. Haven't used it in a while, but I know they used to.
