I do not understand why this is incorrect.

while ($row = $results->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)) { $item[$row["genre_id"]][] = $row["genre"]; }

You're not far off. Referring to the $item array structure in the challenge:

array(8) {
    ...
    ["genres"]=>
    array(2) {
        [3]=>
        string(6) "Comedy"
        [16]=>
        string(6) "Sci-Fi"
    }
}

You need to add to the $item["genres"] array with a key/value pairing of "genre_id" => "genre". To add to the $item["genres"] array you can do:

$item["genres"]["key"] = "value";

Following seems to pass the test, i think, though at least one comment suggested a while loop.

foreach($results as $row){
  $item['genres'][$row['genre_id']] = $row['genre'];

}

I'll admit i found the wording confusing when i looked at the challenge again.

Thanks, Simon. I used the same $item['genres'][$row['genre_id']] = $row['genre'], but in a while clause.
