iOS Swift Collections and Control Flow Control Flow With Loops Working With Loops

I don't understand how to use counter as an index value.

I am a little confused on how to go about this question, didn't really understand the first question either just got lucky. I am also curious on if there are any resources on these.

loops.swift
let numbers = [2,8,1,16,4,3,9]
var sum = 0
var counter = 0

// Enter your code below
while counter < numbers.count {
    sum += numbers[counter]
    counter += 1
}

let numbers = [2,8,1,16,4,3,9]
var sum = 0
var counter = 0

// Enter your code below

while counter < numbers.count {
    sum = sum + numbers[counter]
    counter += 1

}

this is great but I was hoping for some further explination.
