Game Development Unity Basics Assets and Game Objects The Hierarchy

I have to use the hierarchy to select an object. Clicking on it in the scene view will not select it...

... even with the canvas being out of the picture. Please advise.

I had this problem too. The WaterProDayTime is the problem, I selected it and unchecked it in the Inspector.
