Python Python Basics (2015) Python Data Types List Creation

I made my variable , made my list and appended the variable to it. But, i get the "I need more items in the list" error

Am I just THAT dumb ? :(

lists.py
colors = "red"
col_list = ["blue","black","white","cyan","yellow"]
col_list.append(colors)

nvm ...

I just needed to CREATE the lost , not append to it. Confusing phrased question tho ...
