If I wanted to make game apps, what other programs should I invest in?

I am just about finished with the crystal ball course and then I am going to go back and run through the new, updated simple app course right after.

I noticed while doing the crystal ball app that someone else created all the images, animation images, sound etc. What am I looking to get myself into, if I wanted to make a game without purchasing or finding outside graphics and sound.

What programs should I invest in and learn how to use? Just looking for the best route I should take. I am going to continue to do the courses before I make any decisions to start making an app.

Adobe illustrator : used to draw vector graphics, which could be scaled to any size(resolution) without losing any quality. Most(80%) of the 2D games developers create their art in Adobe illustrator.

2D Games where background needs to be created from the photos you have captured (.jpeg or .png) like clouds, sky, ground, flowers. For this Photoshop is used to design the backgrounds, while the main game character might be mostly designed in Adobe illustrator.

Adobe Photoshop : used for editing photos & in 2D games it can be used like, if you want to design a background like a ground & have flowers on it & add more effect to the ground background.

Apple Garageband : iOS & Mac OS X - So much sound effects could be created & many are available to use without the need to require any license.

I hope this would help :) thanks

Very good for creating sound effects
CFXR

If i understand correctly, your are asking about what programs to use to create assets for a game app? in that case, go for photoshop or any other adobe products. when you'll be familiar with "design" app like photoshop then you will able to import those assets into xcode.

I would personally use adobe illustrator, very easy to use and has effects and functionality. Adobe photoshop is more more as you can guess photos. Adobe illustrator use vector drawing so you can resize and redesign anything and not worry about the quality of the image :) Trust me you cant go wrong
