I'm currently very confused. I wan't to learn to create Wordpress themes but do I learn page builders like SiteOrigin?

I'm currently very confused. I wan't to learn to create Wordpress themes for client, but a few people have told me to learn about page builders like SiteOrigin etc.

Can I get some advice here of what actually the industry wants me to learn? I've currently finished uni with a 2:1 with being a Web Designer, but wanting to shift over to Wordpress.

Majorly confused of what is expected!

Personally, I'd learn WordPress and Advanced Custom Fields, then learn Shopify themeing.

If you're setting up as a freelancer, you're pretty much good to go after that.

Julian,

If you "want to learn to create WordPress themes for a client", then Treehouse has a course for that. You'll find it in the Library.

That course teaches you to build a theme from scratch. if you're unfamiliar with PHP, or you want to create themes in a more automated way, then try learning a WordPress framework like Genesis--or, even simpler, buy a theme from a place like Themeforest and tweak it for your client--that's what countless web designers/developers do.
