I'm not using the VM from. can i proceed with this course smoothly?

I'm not using the VM from Treehouse. can i proceed with this course smoothly? im not familiar with virtual machines. i did my downloads and follow the steps of running vm from this tutorial. after vagrant ssh, mine shows vagrant@homestead$.

i get errors. this is my terminal:

what should i do to make the projects file?

sorry for the mess. basically i took these steps:

vagrant up

rails new projects # Could not find gem 'jquery-rails (>= 0) ruby' in the gems available on this machine.

bundle install #Bundler::GemfileNotFound

gem install jquery-rails #Fetching: i18n-0.7.0.gem (100%) ERROR: While executing gem ... (Gem::FilePermissionError) You don't have write permissions into the /var/lib/gems/1.9.1 directory.

If you get permissions issues, try typing sudo first, so sudo gem install jquery-rails. That might fix it for you.

solved thanks. how come my treehouse VM has a (master #) $ behind it?

The "master" will refer to your Git branch that you're working in, I think.
