I'm using a chromebook. Text editor suggestions?

I'm trying to find a text editor to use on my chromebook. I want to be able to open all files in project.zip simultaneously like in the video. I've tried "Text" and "Caret" but have only been able to open one file at a time. Any suggestions?

maybe you try "Atom" ... or "Sublime Text" ...

I use http://brackets.io/ for small DOM projects it has i nice builtin server & https://www.visualstudio.com/ is my favorite code editor - all in one, best Microsoft product ever

hope this helps

With a Chromebook you cannot 'download' and 'install' a traditional desktop application like Atom, VSCode, Sublime Text, etc... Last I checked all of these must be installed and run from a computer with a traditional Operating System. Chromebooks will only let you run web applications. Depending on your needs I would recommend either some code snippet sites or a full-on online IDE (similar to what Treehouse has created to support their courses)

Places to tinker with code snippets:

Some Full Online IDEs - Many of these have a free limited option and paid subscriptions for more intense use:

The list can go on, apparently, there are a lot, here is an article I found that has many of the ones I knew about, but has some others... https://www.slant.co/topics/713/~best-cloud-ides

Would love to know if anyone else has done web development exclusively on a chromebook/web app. I tried for awhile but found them a little slow.

As Anthony Quinn has said, you can't use applications of other Operating Systems on a Chrome OS machine.

However, you can go with online text editors & IDEs, (and they are definitely great) but I've not found desktop-like functionality in the free ones. I have a better option.

You CAN use VS Code on Chromebook.

VS Code is an opensource application. So you can edit the code, use it however you want, wherever you want. You can share it, give it away freely and do everything you want to do with it.

Thanks to a guy who already did the hard work for us and made it available for all. You can find it here. If you face any problems in installing it, then we are here to help.

BTW read through the FAQ section carefully for more info.

Hope that helps. Happy Coding !!!
