In TechDegree and need to know about building portfolio...

I just began the techdegree for Front End Development. I know we will be building 12 projects to display in a portfolio of our work to prospective employers, but not sure what I will need to do that. I am considering buying a domain name and hosting so I can post them as I learn how to make them, but are there any places that are recommended for this? I have used GoDaddy in the past but their hosting comes with a drag & drop (template) no-coding required website builder feature as standard. Recommendations?

Squarespace or Wordpress are great platforms for setting up a portfolio. Both have great templates to kick off with, and both have easy ways to purchase/subscribe a domain. So you don't have to go to an external service like GoDaddy.

I want to develop a website, aren't those blogs?

You can customise the platforms even if you are building it from scratch, but if you just need a good host, perhaps try Bluehost https://www.bluehost.com/ - just avoid the site builder, 1-click install. GoDaddy can do the same.

bluehost is a solid choice, I would also look into siteground. I think the best thing would be to figure what you are trying to do, and kind a host that you think works well for your needs. DO NOT USE GO DADDY. There is a lot of stuff that is not suitable for devs.
